A mixed-use urban village is proposed for Westwood, Kansas, The Star newspaper reports. Westwood, which calls itself "Tree City USA," is located just south of Kansas City, Missouri. The project is a $45 million redevelopment of a health and tennis club, according to the paper.
"Majority club owner Blair Tanner proposed construction of a mixed use development that would include 232 residential apartments, 48 condominiums and 32,500 square feet of retail shops.
Also planned is a 25,000-square-foot addition to the club, including improvements and expansion of the pool facilities, four new indoor tennis courts and an above-ground parking structure. The 39-year-old club is located at 2000 W. 47th Place.
Tanner described the development as featuring a new urbanism design, with luxury apartments above high-end retail shops and luxury condos.
'It will be a mixed-use urban village,” he said. “We’ll brand it as Plaza West and include lots of water elements.' "
