Hoboken waterfront project gets award
A waterfront site where Maxwell House coffee was once roasted and where the first known baseball game using modern rules was played has been redeveloped as a smart growth project.
Maxwell Place on the Hudson, Hoboken, is one of a half-dozen developments honored by New Jersey Future’s 2010 Smart Growth Awards. Designed by Dean Marchetto Architects and developed by Hoboken Brownstone Company and Toll Brothers, Maxwell Place extends the city street grid to the river.
The four-block project includes 832 residential units, 1,398 parking spaces, and 219,426 square feet of commercial space. Two of the four blocks are now completed and occupied. Also included in the project are a waterfront park, restored beach, kayak pavilion, pier shed, and walkway along the Hudson River that are completed and open to the community.
