Planning Director

The Town of Taos, New Mexico (population 6,000)is a fast growing, tourist-driven community located in northern New Mexico. Taos is the cultural and economic center with a historic district in the heart of Taos Valley. The Town of Taos provides municipal services to the greater Taos Valley(approximately 15,000 residents). Recruitment is underway for a Planning Director for the Town of Taos.
The Director provides leadership to all aspects of the department, overseeing the planning staff which includes des the following departments: zoning,long-range planning , building inspection, code-enforcement and animal control. The Director is responsible for providing leadership and direction in the development of short and long range plans and projects ; gathers, interprets, and prepares data for studies, reviews reports and technical information used to develop policies and ordinance for Town officials, boards, comissions, and the general public. Ensures that planning and zoning office is achieving goals within available resources, and is in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
The Director works under the general supervision of the Town Manager, and is a member of the Management Team.
Minium Qualifications: Graduation from college with a Bachelor's degree (B.A.,B.S)in Land Use Planning, Urban Planning, Public Administration, Environmental Design, or a closely related field; AND, Seven(7) years of progressively responsible experience performing above or related duties; two(2) years of which must have been in a supervisory capacity; OR, An equivalent combination of education and experience relevant to the duties described above. American Institute of Certified Planners(AICP)is desired. Applicant must posses a valid and current State driver's license.
Special Qualifications: Certified Zoning Official (CZO) Certification must be obtained within two(2) yearsof date of hire.
