The City of Temple Terrace www.templeterrace.com is currently seeking qualifications for Redevelopment Director.

The City of Temple Terrace (population 23,000) is a vibrant community founded in 1925 located eight miles northeast of the City of Tampa. The 50,000-student University of South Florida campus is two miles away and Busch Gardens is three miles away. The City is currently implementing a major downtown redevelopment project to create a 35-acre New Urbanist town center. http://www.templeterrace.com/revitalize/index.htm We are currently seeking a Redevelopment Director. The previous Redevelopment Director will remain in the area and will be available to orient the new Director. The position is the key element of the multidisciplinary team that is the Redevelopment Department.

The Redevelopment Director position is a highly responsible professional and administrative position in managing the City's designated 250 acre Community Redevelopment Area (CRA). Responsibilities include planning, initiating, and directing programs and projects for the CRA’s physical and economic improvement, including capital projects, marketing efforts, budgeting and committee work. Director must maintain effective working relationships with City, County, and State public officials and the private sector and exercise initiative and independent judgment.

Qualifications: 

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills

• Comprehensive knowledge of the principles, theories, practices, real estate, and methodologies of pedestrian oriented and New Urbanist community redevelopment, including thorough knowledge of CRA national and state laws and regulations.

• Ability to manage economics, architecture, engineering, planning, land development, historic preservation, finance and sociology elements in the redevelopment process.

• Ability to plan, organize, and implement projects.

• Ability to assemble and analyze information, prepare reports, and maintain records clearly, concisely, and effectively.

• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, policy makers, and the public.

• Ability to clearly and effectively communicate and present ideas orally and in writing.

Training and Experience

• Bachelors or Masters Degree in urban planning, public administration, architecture, engineering, or a related field from an accredited college or university.

• Five years experience managing a New Urban redevelopment, “Main Street”, downtown business improvement district, or similar program.

• Experience in community development, economic development, and urban redevelopment.

• Previous experience in government or private sector marketing and/or real estate preferred.

• Or, an equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Salary ranges: $65,000 - $95,000 (Negotiable)
