While many news stories about real estate these days are pointing to regional declines in home sales and price, most are missing the nuance by lumping together sprawl and urbanism. So it's refreshing to see this story from NPR breaking down the housing performance in sprawl vs. urbanism, backing up the new urbanist claim that urbanism holds value.

After 40 years of urban disinvestment, cities are regaining value in the market. Sprawl has been heavily subsidized, yet even the subsidies can't halt its decline in the face of $4 gas. Now we need to strive for the energy efficiency urban living provides.
