The Village of Kennedyville in Kent County, Maryland

The Village of Kennedyville in Kent County, Maryland — one of the first attempts to expand a historic hamlet into a village using traditional neighborhood design — broke ground this spring. Developer Carl Wright contracted with Ryan Homes to build most of the houses. The 25-acre site, adjacent to the hamlet of Kennedyville, includes 60 lots and a small commercial site at the crossroads. Planner Stuart Sirota oversaw a charrette to design the project in 2004 (the plan was covered in the October, 2004, issue of New Urban News). Ryan is using plans created for Lakelands, a TND in Gaithersburg, Maryland, says Sirota of the TND Planning Group. Sirota is also reviewing the architecture.
