Sherman Plaza

Sherman Plaza, a $190 million mixed-use project, is the latest development rising in downtown Evanston, Illinois, which has become an ever-livelier center in the past 10 years. Nearly all of the 253 residential units have been sold; construction is now under way. The project of Klutznick-Fisher Development Company and Focus Development features two 25-story condo towers on a two-story base containing 153,000 sq. ft. of retail. “Evanston’s status as a halfway point between the density of the city and the sprawl of the suburbs is a critical selling point,” The New York Times reported Nov. 16. The Times described Evanston as “a hotbed of New Urbanist planning ideas,” and noted that most new development, including Sherman Plaza, is close to a station serving two commuter rail lines.
