The Cornerstone town center project, which was intended to reinvigorate part of a blighted commercial strip in Parma Heights, Ohio, will likely be stripped of every aspect of New Urbanism. The McGill Property Group of Solon, Ohio, has offered to buy the suburban Cleveland project, which has been under court receivership since developers Joanne and Alan Schneider got into legal and financial trouble. In 2003 the Schneiders had Catalyst of San Francisco plan Cornerstone as a $60 million mix of restaurants, stores, entertainment, and housing, including apartments above retail spaces.
Matt McGill, project manager for McGill Property Group, said, “There will be housing, but not above the stores.” The revised design, he said, will be “completely different from the design they originally had” (see April 2004 New Urban News).
