Hillsborough County, where Duany Plater-Zyberk & Company completed a semiregionial plan in 1999, is pursuing a number of new urban plans. The county approved a traditional neighborhood development ordinance in October, 2002, according to county planner Mike Callahan. “We’re just waiting for someone to test it,” he says. One test may come in the Town ‘N Country town center area, an 81-acre grayfield redevelopment being planned by Canin Associates. Also planned are Brandon Main Street, an 85-acre town center designed by the Genesis Group, and Citrus Park Village, a 500-acre transit-oriented town laid out by URS and Canin Associates. Winthrop, a DPZ plan, recently began construction. The county has a successful model new urban community, West Park Village, which was designed by RTKL and is nearly completed development by Terrabrook.
