Born and raised in Miami, I earned a B.A. in sociology with a concentration in urban sociology at Tulane University in 2003 and a Master of City & Regional Planning from Georgia Tech in 2005. I presently work for Osceola County, Florida in the current planning section. My interest in new urbanism grew after meeting Ms. Plater-Zyberk at DPZ during a University of Miami open-house meeting in 1999 and in the early 2000s encountering by chance on an aisle cap in the Tulane bookstore the book Suburban Nation: The Rise of Sprawl and the Decline of the American Dream (2000). It so happened I had grown disillusioned with architecture, my initial major, after encountering obstinate modernism in the School of Architecture at Tulane, and the book explained the source of my frustrations and also why the American built environment looks the way it does. I knew then to choose urban planning as a profession (to be reformed). I respect the role of public policy in urban planning, but hunger for physical urban planning as informed by new urbanism. According to the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), a theory of personality types that I consider valid (more or less), I'm an INFJ. I want to relocate to Portland, Oregon soon and am looking for urban planning jobs in the metro area.
