One of the best booklets in the field is Designing for Security: Using Art and Design to Improve Security, produced in 2002 by the Art Commission of the City of New York and the Design Trust for Public Space. This 67-page illustrated report is available for $15. Information on how to order is at www.nyc.gov/html/artcom/html/publications.html.
Other useful sources include:
• FEMA 426: Reference Manual to Mitigate Potential Terrorist Attacks Against Buildings. This recent manual is the lead document in the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Risk Management Series of publications, available at www.fema.gov/fima/rmsp.shtm.
• The 2002 National Capital Urban Design and Security Plan, at www.ncpc.gov (click on “publications”). u
