CNU 2012 Charter Awards

Every year, the Congress for the New Urbanism (CNU) facilitates an awards program to recognize the very best in New Urban design. Winning projects are recognized for their excellence in fulfilling and advancing the principles of the Charter of the New Urbanism, which defines the essential qualities of walkable, sustainable places from the scale of the region down to the block and building.

CNU’s Charter Awards recognize distinction in architectural, landscape, and urban designs built in harmony with their physical and social contexts. CNU convenes a jury of distinguished designers, architects, planners, and scholars who choose the winners of the awards after the entries are fully vetted, and educate practitioners on the design techniques employed in the award-winning work. Chairing this year’s jury will be CNU Board member Doug Kelbaugh, professor of architecture and urban planning at the Taubman College of the University of Michigan.

The Charter Awards will offer a prize of $3,500 to the best professional project and $3,500 for the best academic project, courtesy of The Oram Foundation/Fund for the Environment & Urban Life. Grand prize winners will be chosen by the jury due to its outstanding fulfillment of the principles of the Charter of the New Urbanism.
