The National Center for Smart Growth Research and Education and the Maryland Department of Transportation are establishing a joint Transportation Policy Research Group at the University of Maryland in College Park. Its purposes include identifying new markets for transit service, implementing transit-oriented development, examining congestion pricing and other demand-management tools, and studying the effects of transportation investments on urban growth, land use, and environmental quality.
