Architect Patrick Pinnell featured in "sketch pad" column

Architect Patrick Pinnell, who recently moved his office to Chester, Connecticut, was featured in the “Sketch Pad” column of the April 6 New York Times real estate section. Describing himself in the article as “a card-carrying New Urbanist,” Pinnell explained how he would design improvements to a beautiful but somewhat rundown 104-acre rural property containing a struggling equestrian business in Killingly, in Connecticut’s northeastern corner. “People in their woozy way repeat like a mantra: ‘We’ve got to preserve open space,’” Pinnell was quoted as saying. He argued that there’s often a better option: “Instead of buying up open space, towns should be figuring out how to turn land into real working land that’s in use every day.”
