Two proposed mixed-use developments in eastern Pennsylvania — the 210-acre Ellis Preserve Town Center in Newtown Square and the 418-acre Mountain Manor project in Smithfield Township, Monroe County — have won recognition from the Delaware Valley Smart Growth Alliance for embodying smart-growth principles. BPG Properties Ltd. has proposed Ellis Preserve, which would have 582,000 sq. ft. of offices, 419,000 sq. ft. of retail/commercial space, and 200 housing units, all centered on a 15-acre town green. LTS Development LLC is asking approval for Mountain Manor, where 857 dwellings of varying sizes would have access to a dense village center and to a new library, town hall, and community center. The recognition is expected to help the projects gain needed approvals.
