Gulfport, Mississippi, Mayor Brent Warr, who energetically participated

Gulfport, Mississippi, Mayor Brent Warr, who energetically participated in the Mississippi Renewal Forum last October and who has supported new urbanist approaches to redevelopment, received an Urban Leadership Award from the Penn Institute for Urban Research, in Philadelphia in late April, recognizing his leadership before and after Hurricane Katrina. Gulfport is in the process of adopting the SmartCode. Jeffrey Bounds, part of a group advocating the Renewal Forum’s ideas, was appointed by Mayor Warr to serve as interim director of the city’s Department of Urban Development and to smooth the way for the SmartCode.
