Daniel Cary, who went from ecologist in the Everglades to new urbanist planner in West Palm Beach, Florida, and elsewhere, received the Seaside Prize Oct. 14 at a ceremony in Seaside, Florida. Cary, an upstate New York native who has spent much of his career pioneering better development patterns in the Sunshine State, was honored for his advocacy of innovative growth management and urban design while executive director of the Treasurer Coast Regional Planning Council, planning director of West Palm Beach, planning director of the South Florida Water Management District, and in other positions.
