Developer Scott Wolstein is proposing a $225 million mixed-use neighborhood on the east banks of “the Flats,” an entertainment-oriented area along the Cuyahoga River near downtown Cleveland. In an area that has deteriorated during the past several years, Wolstein’s Developers Diversified Realty Corp. wants to build a development that would include 331 housing units and more than 255,000 square feet of retail and entertainment. “We’re going to make this happen,” Mayor Jane Campbell said in May when Diversified unveiled its plans for 14 acres, just down a hill from the restaurants and apartments of Cleveland’s Warehouse District. Wolstein wants to obtain about one-third of the project’s financing from public entities such as the Port Authority. Demolition could begin this fall.
