The Atlanta Regional Commission has allocated $252

The Atlanta Regional Commission has allocated $252 million of mainly federal funds toward establishment of a transit line and a linear park on existing railroad rights-of-way that ring Atlanta’s downtown, Midtown, and intown neighborhoods. The proposed 22-mile circuit could tie together new and existing parks, offer bicycle and pedestrian trails, and spawn opportunities for extensive mixed-use development. The Trust for Public Land has been commissioned to study the project, known alternatively as the Atlanta Belt Line and the Inner Core Transit Project. The project would need an additional $322 million from the city, the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transportation Authority, or other local sources.
