New urbanist developer George de Guardiola and his partner Bruce Rendina sold Town Center holdings in Abacoa, according to the Palm Beach Post. The developers declined to reveal the sales price, but Rendina told the paper that the Town Center, with significant retail, office space, apartments, and a multiscreen cinema, is valued at $60 million. Abacoa is located in Jupiter, Florida.
De Guardiola and Rendina still own about 140 acres throughout the 2,055-acre Abacoa, according to the article. Leasing of the town center retail, which is located far from a main road, has been slow and some shops have gone out of business. The apartments and the cinema reportedly have been successful. The developers insist that the town center, which also includes a spring training baseball stadium and a college campus of Florida Atlantic University, will be more successful when Abacoa matures. “It’s just a baby,” De Guardiola told the Post. “The potential for it is just fantastic.”
