In the Brush Park area of Detroit, Crosswinds
ROBERT STEUTEVILLE    JUL. 1, 2003
In the Brush Park area of Detroit, Crosswinds Communities is developing 700 to 800 townhomes and loft units with prices starting from the $190,000. The units range from 1,300 to 2,000 square feet. The development, called Woodward Place at Brush Park, is laid out on 11 city blocks, includes two small civic greens.
A number of historic buildings on the site are being rehabilitated — including townhomes, an apartment building (with retail on the first floor), and large homes (which will be turned into inns). The project is within a short walk of significant mixed-use development, including restaurants, shops, and stadiums where the Tigers and Lions play. Woodward Place is the largest urban infill development attempted by Crosswinds, which is known for such development. The planner is Hamilton Anderson Associates. About 70 residents have moved into Woodward Place.
