Two years after breaking ground, Iowa City, Iowa’s Peninsula Neighborhood celebrated its Grand Opening on May 17. Iowa City’s only traditional neighborhood development, and one of the few in the Midwest, the 70-acre project is situated on a bluff overlooking the Iowa River. It features narrow, tree-lined streets, public squares and other destinations within walking distance of most houses. Home styles reflect the community’s architectural traditions. Thirty acres of open spaces are preserved. A range of housing options, including live/work units and affordable houses that are architecturally indistinguishable from market-rate homes, are available.
