CNU is proud to announce a new benefit of membership. All members will now receive reports from the periodic Charter Councils as well as the Kentlands, Maryland-based Town Paper. Members had been receiving these publications on an ad-hoc basis, but CNU's board of directors has approved the long-term change. The report from last fall's Santa Fe Charter Council should have arrived in members' mailboxes by now; contact the CNU office if you have not seen one. CNU thanks the Town Paper for providing these publications to members at minimal expense to CNU. The third Charter Council meeting took place April 19 to 21 in Charleston, South Carolina. Discussions focused on streets and buildings, looking at street standards, retail marketing, and architectural style. Developers and designers discussed uses of traditionalism and modernism in New Urbanism, and a tour visited ongoing projects in Charleston. Almost 100 senior CNU members joined in the discussions, which aimed at critiquing projects and forcing forward the state of the practice. CNU welcomes Natalia Pes-cheira as our new administrative and office assistant. She is doing yeoman work helping CNU prepare for the Congress and keeping up with member services, even as we stay on top of our many projects. CNU's first publication catalog is about to be released. This is in recognition that we and our close allies are now self-publishing quite a few titles. The catalog offers over twenty books, videotapes, presentations, and reports for sale. To peruse the offerings, look at our on-line store at store.yahoo.com/cnuinfo.
