Homebuilders in Palm Beach County, Florida, are not thrilled at the prospect of proposed zoning calling for traditional neighborhood design. The Florida county won an award from the American Planning Association in 2001 for its Managed Growth Tier System, which is now going through the approval process. “We don’t like being told what to build,” Shawn Camp, spokesman for the Gold Coast Builders Association told the Sun- Sentinel. “We build what the buyers want, and the buyers’ opinions change over time.” The tiered growth system promotes mixed-use, walkable neighborhoods in parts of the county where most of the new growth is occurring.
