The Century Theater Block, the first phase of the redevelopment of downtown Albuquerque (see July/August 2001 New Urban News) is now open for business. “The movie theater and the retail establishments are all in front of projections,” says Chris Leinberger, a partner in the Historic District Improvement Company. “The beauty of this project is that we have tamed the big box,” he adds. The Century Theater is buried in the middle of the block, surrounded by eight individually designed buildings.
