“The bang of the screen door in front of the corner store” is a sound now heard in Lakelands, a neotradi-tional development in Gaithersburg, Maryland, according to Marilyn Greene, of Greene’s Market. Greene, who has an MBA in marketing, is co-owner of the store with husband Colin Greene, an architect with HOK’s New Urban Studio, and formerly of DPZ’s office in Kentlands, the community connected to Lakelands.
Greene’s Market is a stand-alone store located on a neighborhood green a couple of blocks from Market Square, the retail town center shared by Lakelands and Kentlands. Greene’s Market will offer groceries, candy, sandwiches, fresh bread, newspapers, gifts — and it will attempt to recreate the feel and social atmosphere of a traditional corner store.
