The City of Beaverton, Oregon, had great

The City of Beaverton, Oregon, had great hopes for its transit-oriented development, the Round at Beaverton Central, but is left with a couple of building shells after construction shut down in 1999. According to the Portland Oregonian, developer Selwyn Bingham has yet to secure financing — more than three and a half years after the groundbreaking in October 1997. Beaverton forced the project into federal bankruptcy court. Along with a major creditor, the city has proposed to take control of the project and pay other creditors $2.3 million. “Ours is the only proposal with any money attached to it,” says Linda Adlard, the mayor’s chief of staff. If the judge goes Beaverton’s way, “it is our intention to go forward, find a developer, and get it built,” Adlard says.
