It’s not every day that new construction

It’s not every day that new construction gets an award for historic preservation. But in North Carolina, the Historic Preservation Society of Durham gave its George and Mary Pyne Historic Preservation Award to the new urbanist infill development in the historic Trinity Heights neighborhood (see March/April 2000). The new single homes and townhouses seamlessly blend in with the existing housing stock and respect the character of the neighborhood. Developed by Bob Chapman and Milton Grenfell, the homes will be occupied by employees of neighboring Duke University. Homes range from 1,600 to 2,100 square feet and sold for between $160,000 and $233,000. Grenfell, an architect, designed the homes.
