NU and modern: a rare combination
ROBERT STEUTEVILLE    JAN. 1, 2001
There have been few opportunities o date to test the effectiveness of modern architecture in the New Urbanism, especially in individual homes. However, modern architecture has sometimes been used effectively in mixed-use buildings in new urbanist town centers. Steven Holl’s building in downtown Seaside is an example. High-density projects like Addison Circle in Addison, Texas, feature an architecture that is a hybrid of traditional and contemporary. The same can be said for Daniel Solomon’s infill projects in California. Frank Lloyd Wright’s prairie style, an early 20th Century style, has been used extensively in some NU projects, notably Middleton Hills near Madison, Wisconsin. u
