Construction began on the town center of King Farm, a new urbanist project in Rockville, Maryland. The town center will include 125,000 square feet of retail, including a Safeway supermarket, smaller shops and restaurants, and apartments above the stores. These uses will be grouped around a town square at the heart of the 3,200-unit development, which has been underway for nearly three years. The first town center tenants are scheduled to begin occupancy prior to the end of 2000.
