Joe Alfandre, former developer of new urbanist projects Kentlands and Belmont Forest, has been chosen as the co- executive director of the National Town Builders Association (NTBA) in Washington, DC. Neil Takemoto, who served as the executive director for two years, will continue with the NTBA as codirector in charge of “new economy” initiatives.
Alfandre brings a high level of experience to the NTBA, according to Robert Chapman III, NTBA board member. “He is without parallel as a developer of TNDs,” Chapman says. “Kentlands was the first major mixed use residential community in a major metropolitan area and has been incredibly well received, and he is the founder.” One of Alfandre’s first tasks will be to raise more revenue through increased memberships and educational services — such as seminars and conferences, Chapman says. NTBA hopes to double its membership to 70 in the coming year. u
