ROBERT STEUTEVILLE    SEP. 1, 2000
A new research center on the Florida Atlantic University (FAU) campus in the new urbanist community Abacoa in Jupiter, Florida, will be devoted to studying the physical and social effects of new urbanist design. FAU’s Joint Center for Environmental and Urban Problems has received a $2 million grant from the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation and matching funds will come from the state of Florida. The new center will monitor the progress of Abacoa and act as a consultant for Florida cities and towns looking for help with development plans. The center is currently searching for a director.
