The CNU Board of Directors is gradually growing to its full size of 21 members. The Board is pleased to announce the appointments of Roxanne Qualls and James F. Murley.
Ms. Qualls was elected mayor of Cincinnati and served three terms until termed out in 1999. One of her major initiatives as mayor targeted slum landlords and illegal dumping. She worked to increase home ownership, and she focused recreation development on the riverfront. She previously worked in public-interest jobs including Ohio Citizen Action and the Northern Kentucky Rape Crisis Center. She is now a fellow at the Institute of Politics at Harvard University.
Mr. Murley is director of the Florida Atlantic University-Florida International University Joint Center for Environmental and Urban Problems in Fort Lauderdale. Mr. Murley previously led 1000 Friends of Florida, promoting sensible planning, economic development, and environmental preservation. An attorney, he also worked at the Florida Department of Community Affairs, where he helped draft Florida's landmark Growth Management Act. He graduated from George Washington University Law School in 1974 with a specialty in environmental and land-use law.
