A neighborhood of multifamily housing begins construction in Celebration

A neighborhood of multifamily housing designed by Torti Gallas & Partners/CHK will begin construction in early spring in Celebration’s South Village. Developed by Pritzker Residential, the 50-acre project will include 720 apartments and townhouses, 287 of which will be built in the first phase. Unlike in conventional garden apartment complexes, the buildings will all have street frontages, and residents will park in rear-loading garages or in the center of blocks. Several neighborhood squares and courtyards will enhance the project’s urban character. “It was important for us to make it feel like a complete neighborhood, so we designed a broad variety of apartment housing types,” says Maurice Walters of Torti Gallas/CHK. The neighborhood will have six basic building types that range from a one bedroom town house to 12-unit, two-story apartment building. In all except one of the types, every apartment has a door on the street, Walters says. In accordance with the Celebration pattern book, the buildings will be built in four styles, Classical, Colonial Revival, Mediterranean, and French. The project will include a series of community buildings and recreational facilities but no commercial component.
