Victoria Courts is a 10-block, 44-acre new

Victoria Courts is a 10-block, 44-acre new urbanist neighborhood planned by the San Antonio Housing Authority (SAHA). The housing authority has announced that it will demolish old public housing on the site and seek a developer through a request for proposal process. SAHA also is seeking a $35 million Hope VI grant from the US Department of Housing and Urban Development. The plan reestablishes the city grid. A mix of neotraditional apartments, townhomes, and single homes, along with first floor retail (under apartments) on the busiest street, are planned. One hundred of the new units, or 20 percent of the total, will be public housing. Alleys and mid-block parking garages and lots will be used for residents’ parking. Visitors will park on the street. The master plan was created in two planning workshops cohosted by SAHA, neighborhood associations, and the San Antonio chapter of the the American Institute of Architects, chaired by Andrew Clements.
