New Urbanist philosopher Leon Krier’s new book,
ROBERT STEUTEVILLE    JAN. 1, 1999
New Urbanist philosopher Leon Krier’s new book, Choice or Fate, critiques the architectural excesses of Modernism and presents a workable countervision in the form of graphical plans for the restoration of several European city centers, a design for the “completion” of Washington, D.C., and the traditional neighborhood development of Poundbury, in Dorcester, England, designed by Krier and currently under construction. The meaning of the city, for Krier, is both a technical matter and a moral imperative which he feels The New Urbanism is prepared to address.
