The new urbanist redevelopment plan for St.
ROBERT STEUTEVILLE    JAN. 1, 1999
The new urbanist redevelopment plan for St. Louis Park Town Center was recently submitted for approval to the Metropolitan Council of St. Louis Park, Minnesota, and is expected to be adopted by the end of January. The project’s three and four-storey structures will replace aging strip mall buildings located in an inner-ring suburban commercial area. The design by Town Planning Collaborative envisions new apartments, townhomes, and shops in a traditional town center. A mixed-use ordinance already in place is expected to facilitate approval of re-zoning the area to a mixed-use district. Avalon Bay Communities was selected as the private developer for the first phase of the project, which received $1.2 million in funding from Minnesota’s Liveable Community Act demonstration account, a grant program administered by the Metropolitan Council.
