The link is getting stronger between new mass
ROBERT STEUTEVILLE    SEP. 1, 1998
The link is getting stronger between new mass transit lines and pedestrian-oriented development. Transit-oriented new urbanist projects recently designed and/or under construction include Orenco Station, Peterkort Station and Portland International Center (all in the Portland, Oregon, metropolitan region), Lindbergh Station (near Atlanta), Swansea Town Center (near St. Louis), Westchase town center (Tampa, Florida), Grosvenor Village (Bethesda, Maryland) and Centennial Crossing (Vernon Hills, Illinois). Many of these projects might have taken a different form if it were not for their proximity to train stations, where public officials are increasingly considering high-density mixed-use villages.
