Peter Katz
Peter Katz has been a leader in advancing innovative approaches to community planning for more than 25 years. He played a catalytic role in launching the New Urbanism by writing a seminal book, The New Urbanism: Toward an Architecture of Community, and serving as the founding executive director of the Congress for the New Urbanism (CNU). During Peter’s tenure, CNU adopted its charter, obtained its first grant funding, began a strategic partnership with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, and convened the organization’s first and only international congress. He was recently named a fellow of CNU in recognition of his contributions to the movement. Peter is now leading SmartGO, a nonprofit organization that is advancing car-optional communities and transportation choices that are healthier and more sustainable for people and the planet (https://smartgo.network/).
