A 25-acre organic farm in Serenbe

A 25-acre organic farm in Serenbe, a new urban development about 30 miles southwest of downtown Atlanta, was the focus of a March 1 travel feature in The New York Times. The farm, established by Steve and Marie Nygren, supplies food for the Farmhouse, a Serenbe restaurant that has won acclaim throughout the region.

In the past five years, Serenbe’s first two high-density hamlets have been built, “shaped like omegas to flow with the undulations of the land and constructed according to stringent environmental and conservation standards,” the paper reported. The hamlets “have a Main Street feel, with Arts and Crafts cottages sharing the winding lanes with loft-style town houses and sleek modern boxes,” according to the article.

“One hamlet, Selborne, is devoted to the visual and culinary arts and features two galleries, a gourmet grocer, a bike rental, a salon and several boutiques,” The Times noted. The other hamlet, known as Grange, has an agricultural theme, and includes the farm and stables. “A third neighborhood is being planned, with a focus on health and healing, though the economy has slowed the progress,” according to the article.
