After four year as CNU’s Director of Policy and Research, Ellen Greenberg will return to the practice of city planning this September. While her focus shifts from studying and advancing new urbanist strategies to implementing them, Ellen plans to stay closely involved with CNU and will continue coordinating the major urban thoroughfares project till its completion. The project, a partnership of CNU and the Institute of Transportation Engineers, will produce a guidebook on the design of context-sensitive major urban thoroughfares. At CNU Ellen supervised research programs to study implementation of New Urbanism, collaborating with colleagues on topics including zoning reform, regulations designed to stimulate transit-oriented development, and redevelopment of obsolete malls or “grayfield” sites. She also served as Interim Executive Director before John Norquist became CNU’s President and CEO and coordinated the program for CNU XII. CNU thanks Ellen for her many contributions and looks forward to future collaborations. With Ellen departing, Sandrine Milanello will remain in Oakland but will move to new office space later this fall. CNU’s Chicago office welcomes a new employee, administrative assistant Brenda Jones Smith. Brenda has a degree in business administration from Chicago City College and a decade’s experience as Administrative Assistant and Financial Coordinator at Blue Cross Blue Shield Association in Chicago. She is responsible for handling office travel and scheduling arrangements, and providing administrative support for membership services and order fulfillment.
