Afton Village, a TND in Concord, North

Afton Village, a TND in Concord, North Carolina, is getting its town center underway this year, after a nearby interchange was built on I-85 that will generate more traffic to the area. The first commercial building is complete, providing retail space below four condominiums. A cafe is expected to open in early spring, and other potential tenants for the town center include an independent bookstore, bank, gift store, and dentist. The town center will be anchored by a 65,000 sq. ft. YMCA, scheduled to open in the summer of 2003. More than 100 families live in Afton, about half in single-family homes and the rest split between townhouses, multiplexes, and condominiums. Phase II of the project, which has just been approved, will add another 500 residential units. The project is designed and developed by architect David Mayfield.
