The American Planning Association recently awarded its Outstanding Planning Award in the “Information Technology” category to an electronic Community Vision Survey conducted in Hillsborough Township, New Jersey. Designed and implemented by Looney Ricks Kiss (LRK), the survey let citizens imagine how the city’s main thoroughfare could change from a strip into a pedestrian-friendly main street. Three quarters of the respondents indicated that they were willing to pay more taxes to finance improvements of the street, Jim Constantine of LRK says.
