Apartments adding energy to Baldwin Park
Baldwin Park in Orlando, Florida, is one of the nation's better traditional neighborhood developments. Two miles from downtown, it's "Celebration in a real location," as resident and Rollins College professor Bruce Stephenson puts it. The town center, which includes an urban Publix supermarket, still has some empty storefronts and could use more street life (the main street is shown above). More life will come when Post Properites completes 410 apartment units, currently under construction and designed by Cooper Carry, adjacent to the town center. In addition, the Jefferson Apartment Group is planning to replace an old barracks (Baldwin Park is a redeveloped Naval Training Center) with a 178-unit apartment complex, designed by Looney Ricks Kiss. The barracks are being demolished now. There are 705 units already built in the center, and 4,578 total approved for the entire project.
