Baldwin Park wins award
ROBERT STEUTEVILLE    JUN. 1, 2004
Baldwin Park a large new urban project in Orlando, Florida, won a National 2004 Building With Trees Award of Excellence from the National Arbor Day Foundation for saving many large old trees despite the need to build on the sites where they stood. With direction from Dr. Arthur C. Costonis, an arborist, more than 100 mature live oaks, laurel oaks, and other large specimens were relocated. Ninety percent survived. By the time the 1,100-acre development is completed in 2008, the Baldwin Park Development Company will also have planted more than 3,000 new street trees.
