Bois-Franc, a neotraditional town under construction

In Bois-Franc, a neotraditional town under construction in the City of St. Laurent, Quebec, developer Bombardier Real Estate has come up with a unique solution for garage entry. Many of the residential blocks in the 8,000-unit project consist of townhomes that enclose greens inspired by Savannah, Georgia. No garages are visible from the front of these townhomes — yet there are no alleys, either. The solution: a single common driveway is tucked to the side of a row of townhomes (see photo), leading to an underground passage that serves all garages. In most cases, this passage is behind homes, and a patio or back yard is built on top the structure. In some cases, however, the common garage access runs under an elevated front yard.
