Cagan Crossings

Cagan Crossings was designed 15 years ago by Duany Plater-Zyberk & Company (DPZ) as a high-density neighborhood with affordable rental units near Orlando, Florida. For a long time, only the latter were built, with a small amount of mixed-use. The project is now getting some of the diverse elements that will make it into a more complete neighborhood. Four buildings with 64,000 square feet of commercial and 50 condominium units  — priced from $199,000 to $250,000 — are built or nearing completion in the town center, Sandy Cagan of Cagan Management told New Urban News. The architect is Robert Herrmann of Naples, Florida. Also breaking ground in the town center is a 30,000 square foot public library. The next phase will be 110 townhouses to add to the existing 990 apartment units, laid out in walkable blocks. The first 434 units were built with tax credit financing and are required to be affordable to those earning 80 percent of the median income in the region. Rents throughout range from $430 to $920 per month. The 617-acre project will eventually have up to 8,000 units.
