Call for Submissions: The 2015 CNU Charter Awards
The Congress for the New Urbanism’s annual Charter Awards, which recognize “exemplary work in architectural, landscape, urban and regional design,” adds a back-to-the-future twist for 2015.
“This year,” said Lynn Richards, CNU’s President and CEO,”we want to ramp up the opportunity for Charter Awards entries to demonstrate something that has always set New Urbanism apart. From the very beginning, our organization and our members have argued that great design not only shapes places that look and feel better, it also makes places that work better. So we’ll be asking entries to celebrate that, to point to specific ways good design choices in their projects improve the chances that people and businesses in those places will thrive and prosper.”
When the Charter for the New Urbanism was written almost two decades ago, it asserted links between quality design and quality of life. In the years since, the assertion has been bolstered by academic research and practical experience worldwide. “So it’s time,” said Ms. Richards, “that we reaffirmed those connections in the awards program that embodies the Charter’s principles.”
Open to anyone worldwide, the Charter Awards honor projects at various scales and in various entrant categories. The 2015 Awards jury chair is Elizabeth Plater-Zyberk, a CNU founder and former Dean of the Architecture School at the University of Miami.
Entries for 2015 will be welcomed beginning November 12, 2014, and must be received no later than January 14, 2015. Winners will be announced at CNU’s 23 annual Congress in Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas, April 29-May 2.
