The City of Alexandria, Virginia, in March

The City of Alexandria, Virginia, in March approved a high-density neighborhood centered on a transit station plaza. Described as a “city within a city,” Eisenhower East actually wraps around a new urban community under construction called Carlyle — one of a growing number of such instances where New Urbanism is connecting to New Urbanism. The plan, by Ehrenkrantz, Eckstut, and Kuhn Architects, includes 6.5 million square feet of potential new development including substantial residential, office, and retail.
