The City of Moss Point, Mississippi, adopted the SmartCode and the plan from the Mississippi Renewal Forum for the redevelopment of downtown in October, a year after the forum. The adoption allows the city to apply for funds to move the city hall and other buildings away from the waterfront, according to the Biloxi Sun-Herald. With the SmartCode, “variances will be few and far between,” says Steve Renfroe, chairman of a city commission that worked with the team of new urbanists headed by Steve Schukraft of HOK Planning Group.
